What Does the Bible Say About Debt

What Does the Bible Say About Debt

The Holy Bible is very clear on the subject of accumulating debt, borrowing and not returning, and running from your debt. If you borrow from someone, whether it is a financial institution, a friend, or a family member, then God expects you to pay that which you have borrowed. I  have not borrowed a dime from anyone throughout my life. If I have to in the future you can rest assured I will return that which I borrowed promptly. God does not like those who borrow and give someone else their word that they will return it, but instead, they have no desire to make good on the loan, or their word. That makes that person a liar and a thief, as well as puts that person in jeopardy of being turned over to grief and strife in their lives, and the lake of fire shall be their eternity. Ever wonder why things just don’t go well for you in life?

The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. Psalm 37:21 KJV

The person that gets me the most is someone who signs an agreement for a student loan for college, does not pay that loan back, instead runs and hides as if it will just go away, yet they still brag about the degree that that loan provided the means for them to obtain.  You can’t brag about something and pretend to be intelligent and morally sound when you can’t even honor the very contract that you signed and agreed upon. Instead, you have shown the world that you are a liar, thief, untrustworthy, and immoral. You certainly are not an individual who is looking to better their life through the loan they signed for in the first place.

Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Proverbs 13:11 KJV

Some family members in my life have borrowed from me, and have no desire to pay that which they borrowed back. They owe many people from whom they have borrowed from and have no intention of paying their debt back. I have instructed others to turn that debt over to God, forgive them of their wicked ways, and not expect the debt to be paid back because the reality is that debt will never be settled until they stand before God on Judgment Day. Then there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Luke 13:28 KJV

Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. Luke 6:30 KJV
